Reform in Wisconsin: why Rep. Melissa Sargent is fighting for more than just medical marijuana

With the Midterm-election of pro-cannabis lawmaker Gov. Tony Evers, the state of Wisconsin has been rumored to be one of the next states in-line to legalize medical marijuana.

But the recently elected Governor has been quiet when speaking on a potential adult-use bill, often shifting the focus back to what a medical market may look like. While his budget proposal did include a plan for decriminalization, it failed to address outright legalization.

Some representatives, like Madison-district Rep. Melissa Sargent, are working to pass progressive legislation that would detail an adult-use market while potentially including expungement, and social equity programs.

We recently had the opportunity to discuss Rep. Sargent’s plans & what to expect on the legalization front in 2019 in our podcast series, the Vault.
